How do I get rid of doubt?

Time, has everything to do with the answer.

Let’s use an example from the workplace. You are the director and you need somebody to complete a very important task. Will you trust the new employee who just walked in last week? Or, will you rather give the task to a senior because you’ve known this colleague for longer and you trust his/her ability to make a success out of the project?

It is just human to trust somebody that you spend lots of time with, more than the person you hardly ever talk to. So, it is also just human to trust a God that you spend lots of time with, more than a God that you hardly ever have a conversation with.

How do I have a conversation with God? You’ve heard the answer before, by praying and reading your Bible. Simple. But it’s not easy. It is easy to close your eyes, fold your hands together and fall asleep. Even on your knees. It’s also easy to read a whole chapter from the Bible and not take in a single word. I talk from experience.

The not so easy part lies in taking the time to really get to know God. Talk to Him. Worship Him.  Get to know the Bible, don’t just read it. Read it! Enroll in Bible school. Listen to sermons and teachings of leaders who have a clear understanding of the Word and who do not compromise on what the Bible says. Use pure, Holy Spirit inspired study guides. Ask God to reveal the meaning of scriptures to you through the Holy Spirit. Memorize those verses that really speak to your heart.   

There is a quote that sums it up well: “Man says, show me and I’ll trust you. God says, trust me and I’ll show you.”

But how can you trust Him if you don’t know Him?

If you draw close to Him, He will draw close to you. If you know and keep the commandments of Jesus, He will manifest Himself to you. You will find God if you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul. Faith will be rewarded. If you trust Him, He will make your paths straight.

I found all of these promises in the Bible.

Who are you?

Put God first

“God will open the floodgates of heaven for you. He will bless you abundantly. Blessings and prosperity are already yours. Just claim it, declare it, speak it and prepare to be amazed!” We all love to hear this message from preachers. Sure, it is Biblical. Jesus did say that whatever we ask for in prayer will be ours if we believe that we already have it. We are indeed told that God will open the floodgates of heaven for us. Jesus told us not be concerned about our daily needs because we have a Father in heaven who knows what we need. (Mark 11:24, Mal. 3:10, Matt. 6:31-32) But, this is not all that the Bible says. The problem with prosperity preaching, is that it shows people a distorted picture of who God is and where we stand in relationship with Him.
