Trust in God's lovingkindness

Image
Lovingkindness is a characteristic of God that we read about a lot in the Old Testament. But what exactly does it mean? According to biblestudytools.com, the original Hebrew word, translated as lovingkindness, means: “to bend or bow oneself” “to incline oneself” “to be gracious or merciful” This is who our God is. Think of the lovingkindness shown by Jesus during His walk on earth… How he bowed Himself down to wash the feet of His disciples. How He was inclined to heal the leper. How He showed gracious mercy by healing all who were sick or oppressed. (John 13:4-5, Mark 1:40-41 , Mat. 4:24) Whoever [is] wise will observe these [things], And they will understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. - Ps 107:43 NKJV Do not forget or believe otherwise. He loves us. He is kind towards us. He wants what is best for us. The enemy has been very busy convincing people otherwise since the beginning of time. When tempting Eve in the Garden of Eden, he made her doubt God’s good inte...

You are surrounded

Image
Dear child of God, right now you may feel surrounded by bad news, uncertainty and fear. Just like Elisha’s servant, you see danger all around. And that scares you. The king of Syria had surrounded the city of Dothan in an attempt to capture the prophet Elisha. When Elisha’s servant awoke the next morning, and saw the horses and chariots around the city, he cried out to Elisha in fear. But, Elisha did not panic…   "Don't be afraid!" Elisha told him. "For there are more on our side than on theirs!" Then Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!" The LORD opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. - 2Kings 6:16-17 NLT When God had opened the spiritual eyes of Elisha’s servant, he could see that Syria’s horses and chariots were greatly outnumbered by those of the angels surrounding them. In fact, the hillside was filled with angels! Elisha wa...

Please! No more conspiracy theories!

Image
Photo by  Hans-Peter Gauster  on  Unsplash I don’t know about you, but all these conspiracy theories regarding COVID-19  are getting on my nerves. Seriously. You have probably had your fair share as well, so I am not even going to mention any of them floating around right now. I am just going to tell you why I have a problem with conspiracy theories. Apart from them being truly annoying and mostly ridiculous, they are also not biblical. What am I talking about? This part of Scripture: “The LORD has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, "Don't call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don't live in dread of what frightens them. Make the LORD of Heaven's Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble.”  Is. 8:11-13 NLT Think about it. What do conspiracy theories do? They provoke fear and uncertainty – a mentality of “there’s something worse...

Gifts of the Spirit

Image
According to the Bible, you, as a born again, Spirit filled, child of God, have been given Spiritual gifts. I’m not talking about your natural talents and abilities. These all work together with your Spiritual gifts. I am talking supernatural gifts! So, what exactly is it and why were Christians given these gifts? Well, first of all, they are exactly what they are being called, they are gifts . They have been given to every believer by a gracious God, through his Spirit (Heb. 2:4, Eph. 4:7). It was not given to benefit only you as an individual, but to benefit the entire Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:7). It should be carried out in love and should bear Spiritual fruit. That is why it is important to understand the following verses: “Now there are varieties of gifts , but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service , but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities , but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.” 1 Cor. 12:4-6, ESV ...

Introducing my new book!

Image
I am very excited to announce that I have published my first Contemporary Christian Fiction Novella as an indie author! Why did I choose to go indie? Well, for various reasons, and you can read all about that here . But for now, let’s get back to the book. The Grace Song   is a story about grace, love and second chances. But ultimately it is a story about faith and how it turns out that believing really is seeing (John 11:40). Jenna has questions. Questions about God, faith and being a Christian. Her life takes a dramatic turn as she unexpectedly finds herself in the middle of more than one battle raging around her. There is the battle between truths and lies as she is being falsely accused of verbal abuse against a student. Can her name be cleared, and can the music school still be saved? Will God really work all things for the good of his children? In the midst of that, a passionate battle for her love takes place between two best friends. Will Johnathan’s...

Holy Spirit Power

Image
Photo by  Alex Woods  on  Unsplash Dear born again, blood bought, Spirit filled child of God. So far you know that… You have eternal life. (John 6:47) Your sins have been forgiven. (Col 1:13-14) You are a citizen of Heaven. (Phil 3:20-21) Your name is written in the Book of Life. (Rev 3:5) You are his newly created masterpiece. (Eph 2:10) You belong to the Almighty (2Cor 1:21-22) To refresh your memory you can read the previous two blog posts here:   Who are you?  and  What do you hope for? Now it’s time to look at the next two statements about who you are in Christ : I am a temple of the Holy Spirit, He lives in me. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,” 1Co 6:19 ESV Yes, you are not your own. You have been bought at a very high price. The very blood of God Himself. You belong to Him. All of you belong ...

Who are you?

Image
As a born again, Spirit filled, child of God - you are His masterpiece. Long before you were even born, in fact, before the world was created, God chose you. He had a special job planned for you then, and has now re-created you with that special job in mind. (Eph. 1:4, Eph. 2:10, 2 Cor. 5:17, Rom. 7:4) You are now… Established in Christ This means you can stand firm in Christ. God will not allow you to be shaken. (Ps 55:22) Anointed You have been set apart and commissioned for God’s kingdom and empowered with the gifts of the Spirit. (Acts 1:8, 1 Cor. 12:7-11) Sealed The Almighty, most high God has bought you with his own blood. There is a seal of ownership on you. You are certified as His property. (1Pe 1:18-19) Given the Spirit The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of that ownership and also of the promises in God. (Eph 1:13, 1 Cor. 12:3) Does this mean that you are now more important than the rest of mankind? No, it doesn’t. Do you have t...

What do you hope for?

Image
Thank you for joining me on this journey as I delve deeper into God’s Word concerning the statements that we, as born again, Spirit filled believers can make about ourselves. You can read the statements here . I have decided to study the first four statements together, namely: -       I have eternal life -       My sins have been forgiven. -       I am a citizen of Heaven -       My name is written in the Book of Life To me, these four statements form the foundation of our hope. Because we believe that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, our sins have been forgiven and our names are written in the Book of Life. We now have the promise of eternal life in Heaven. (Rom 10:9) So, let’s take a closer look at these statements… My sins have been forgiven We are all sinners and we cannot live up to God’s standards, no matter how holy or good we think...

Walking free...

Image
Before we can look at walking free, we first need to know why we are not free to start with. In order for us to do this, we need to take a look at the enemy. Satan was an angel who fell because of pride. He wanted to be like God. Because of this sin he was cast out of heaven together with a third of the angels (Is. 14:12-13). He then decided to tempt man with the same sin that caused his own fall. He made Adam and Eve believe that they could be like God. He sparked selfish pride in their hearts (Gen. 3:4-5). When they had made the choice to submit to this pride, they had made idols of themselves by putting their own desires above God. That was the fall of man. That was how sin entered into the world (Rom. 5:12).  All sin are rooted in selfish pride. People sin because they want to satisfy their selfish desires. From stealing, to lying to murdering. All sin boils down to man bowing before his own desires.  That is why God gave the law. The Te...
